For the past several decades, patients and dental professionals alike have relied on traditional braces to straighten teeth. Although there are other options that achieve the same goal in modern-day dentistry, metal/porcelain braces remain extremely popular for one very simple reason: they work. Traditional braces are one of many dental services offered to our patients from the DFW area.
Candidates for Traditional Braces
For many years, it was much more common to see young teens wearing braces. And while it’s still true that the teenage years are an excellent time to straighten a young person’s teeth, older adults are choosing traditional braces to straighten their teeth more than ever before. The truth is that it’s never too late to wear braces to straighten your teeth, assuming that you have adequate bone structure and enjoy good oral health.
Important Information about Traditional Braces
Traditional braces are comprised of small pieces of metal/porcelain, each of which is glued to a tooth and connected by wires held in place by metal/porcelain brackets and tie wires or rubber bands. Over the course of many months, the patient’s teeth gradually shift into their new, straighter positions.
Although there are now some alternative ways to straighten teeth, traditional braces do provide some benefits. Not only are they effective, but they’re also stronger and much more durable than some of the newer alternatives, such as aligner trays. They also cannot be removed by the patient. This makes traditional braces a good choice for younger people who might be more physically active than older adults, and who also may be more tempted to not always wear dental appliances if given the option of removing them. Traditional braces are also typically less expensive than other options.
