At Forever Smiles, we know exactly how a beautiful smile can change the quality of our patient’s lives for the better. That’s why we’re pleased to offer the Invisalign® teeth straightening method to our patients from throughout the Mansfield, Texas area. If you’re not familiar with this revolutionary technology, keep reading to find out more.
The Invisalign® Process
Unlike traditional metal braces, the Invisalign® method involves the patient wearing clear plastic aligner trays for at least 22 hours each day. We begin by taking digital scans, X-rays, and photographs of the patient’s mouth. These images are then sent to an outside dental lab where custom trays are created for the patient. Once the first set is ready to wear, the patient returns to our office where we ensure a proper fit. After that, we supply the patient with a new set of aligner trays every two to three weeks. Slowly, over a period of several months, the aligners work to straighten the teeth.
Advantages of Invisalign®
There are good reasons why the Invisalign® method has become so popular with patients and dental providers. Here are just some advantages to this teeth-straightening technology:
- The clear plastic aligner trays are virtually invisible. Unlike traditional metal braces, no one will ever know you’re wearing an orthodontic appliance with Invisalign®.
- The total treatment time is shorter than traditional braces. Most people complete their Invisalign® process in 12 to 18 months. Metal braces, on the other hand, usually take 24 months on average and can take as long as 3 years!
- The aligner trays are removable. Patients can remove their trays to eat meals and brush and floss their teeth. This means there are no dietary restrictions with Invisalign®, and brushing and flossing are easy.
- Invisalign® trays are more comfortable than traditional braces. The brackets and wires that come along with metal braces can be somewhat painful for the patient, especially at first. But the Invisalign® plastic trays are relatively comfortable to wear.
